Code Enforcement

The mission of the Code Enforcement Division is to conduct a comprehensive code enforcement effort that fosters voluntary compliance, affects prompt correction of noted violations, and that is consistent, fair, and equitable in its application.

Division Goals

To continue with a program to curb high weeds and grass
To continue to safeguard the public by removal of junk and debris in their neighborhoods
To continue an aggressive sub-standard abatement program
To initiate an efficient operation during the transition of new software being implemented during this fiscal year

High Grass & Weeds

Weeds and grass over 10 inches in height are a violation of the City of Bridgeport Nuisance Ordinance. Property owners and tenants are responsible for keeping their lawns mowed to the edge of the roadway. Failure to do so may result in a citation and/or a bill for mowing services, should the city hire a contract mower to have the work performed. You will receive a notice through the mail if you are found in violation of the ordinance.

Malas Hierbas

Las Malas hierbas o cesped (zacate) que tengan mas de 10 pulgadas de alto estaran violando el Codigo de Ornato y Limpieza de la Ciudad de Bridgeport.Los dueños de la propiedad y los inquilinos tienen la responsabilidad de mantener sus cespedes recortados hasta la orilla de la carretera. Si alguna persona no cumple con esta ordenanza estara sujeta a una multa y/o cobro de los servicios prestados en caso de que la Ciudad necesite contratar a alguien para recortar el cesped o las malas hierbas. Usted recibira una notificacion por correo en caso de que su propiedad este violando el Codigo de Limpieza de la Ciudad.

Junk Motor Vehicles

Vehicles that are inoperative, partially dismantled, have expired license tags or safety inspection sticker, or are wrecked are considered "Junk Motor Vehicles." These vehicles may be in violation of the City Code of Ordinances. In cases of lengthy noncompliance, the city may have the vehicle towed or a citation may be issued for each day the vehicle is in violation.

Vehiculos de Motor Inoperables

Los vehiculos de motor que no trabajen, que esten parcialmente desmantelados, chocados o cuyas placas o sellos de inspeccion esten expirados pueden ser clasificados como “Vehiculos de Motor inoperable”. Este tipo de vehiculos violan el Codigo de la Ciudad. Si los dueños de estos vehiculos insisten en no cumplir con el Codigo, la Ciudad podria multarlos y podria solicitar que el vehiculo sea recogido por la grua.

Garage Sales

Garage sales may only be conducted after obtaining a permit through the city. The person applying for the permit must reside at the location where the sale is to take place. The duration of a garage sale may not exceed 3 consecutive calendar days. It is unlawful to erect in the public right-of-way, attached to any utility pole in the right-of-way, or easement any sign advertising a garage sale or yard sale. Garage sales by the same residence may be conducted not more than 4 times in a calendar year. No new merchandise acquired for resale shall be permitted.

Letreros para Anunciar las Ventas

No se pueden llevar a cabo mas de 4 ventas al año y no pueden durar mas de tres (3) días consecutivos. Se requiere un permiso. Los letreros no se pueden colocar en los postes de servicio publico ni sobre ningun otro objecto en las carreteras de la ciudad. Lo letreros no pueden ser colocados cerca de la orilla de la carretera ni en las intersecciones.

Unclean Premise

Any property, public or private, should be kept free of unsightly accumulations of garbage and/or junk which are likely unsightly, unsanitary, or offensive, or likely to create or endanger the citizens. The city will not pick up debris as the result of remodeling. This is the responsibility of the home owner.

Limpieza de la Propiedad

Cualquier propiedad, ya sea publica o privada, debe manternerse libre de basura, escombros, desperdicios y/o desechos que puedan convertirse en una amenaza a la salud publica o que puedan ser causa de enfermedades. La Ciudad de Bridgeport no recoge la basura del remodelaje o restauracion de una casa; la resposabilildad es del dueño de la casa.

City Services

On the second week of each month the city will pick up bulk items.

This includes washers, dryers, couches, chairs, etc.

On the last week of each month the city will pick up brush and limbs.

If you need the city to make a pick up at your residence on these weeks the item must be set out by the curb, away from power lines and trees. Then call the City of Bridgeport at (940) 683-3400 to arrange pickup.
