Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT$)

By law of the State of Texas, the City of Bridgeport collects a Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) from the four local hotels (La Quinta, Greystone Inn, Comfort Suites, and Bridgeport Suites) on a monthly basis. This revenue is collected for the purpose of promoting tourism and the convention and hotel industry. In May of 2011, the City Council amended Section 11.308 "Use and Allocation of Revenues" of the Bridgeport City Code to state that 75% of HOT$ collected will be allocated to Main Street, Bridgeport Stage, future city projects, and charitable/nonprofit / community organizations as requested and approved by the application process.

The city provides annual funding for charitable/nonprofit / community organizations whose programs, activities, or special events qualify. The entity must turn in a complete application along with the required attachments by the annual due date. In addition, an entity's programs, activities, or special events must fit the uses and allocations of HOT$ that were previously adopted by the City Council, codified as Section 11.308 "Use and Allocation of Revenues" of the Bridgeport City Council, as set by Section 351.101 of the Texas Tax Code. There are stringent requirements concerning the use of the HOT$. For more information, please review Section 351.101 of the Texas Tax Code in its entirety online.
