1. Who handles nuisance complaints pertaining to animals in the City?

The Animal Control Officer can answer any questions or concerns regarding animals. The Animal Control Officer can be  reached by contacting the Bridgeport Police Department at (940) 683-3430.

2. Where can I buy a garage sale permit?

Garage sale permits can be purchased at the Utility window in City Hall, located at 900 Thompson Street, for the cost of $5.

3. Where can I put my garage sale signs?

Two garage sale signs may be placed on the property in which the sale will occur. Any signs posted throughout the City will be removed and property owners will be subject to a fine up to $500. We recommend advertising your garage sale in the newspaper.

1. I just received a ticket. What do I do now?

You have several options, depending on the violation for which the citation was issued. Please read over the information on the Court Website and should your question not be answered contact our office at (940) 683-3420 to discuss your options and to get the information that will help you process your ticket. Please note that a phone call does not qualify as an appearance. 

2. What is deferred disposition?

The court offers the option to "defer" or postpone the disposition of your case and place you on probation for a specified period of time.  During the deferral period, you must comply with the terms and conditions of your deferral.  Terms vary.  Please be aware the type of offense you have been charged with, the facts of your particular case and/or your criminal history may be considered to determine if you are eligible for deferral. If you successfully comply with the terms of your deferral in the timeframe ordered by the Court, your case will be dismissed. If any requirements are not met and you cannot provide a satisfactory reason why, at a hearing before a judge, you may be found guilty.  If your offense is reportable to the Department of Public Safety (DPS), the Court will provide notice of conviction to DPS. 

3. Will a driver safety course benefit me?

The driver safety course informs you of driver responsibility and works to heighten your awareness when you are on the road. If you receive a citation, and you meet the requirements, taking this course will prevent the citation from showing a conviction on your driving record.

4. What form of payment do you accept?

We accept visa, mastercard, debit cards, money orders, cashier checks, and cash. You may also pay online at https://www.municipalonlinepayments.com/bridgeporttx/court/search. 

5. I received a citation for no liability insurance, but I have insurance. What do I do?

The Court may dismiss a no insurance citation if you provide written proof of valid insurance at the time of the offense and the Court is able to verify with the insurance company that the insurance was valid and covered the defendant and the vehicle being driven. The written proof of insurance should have the policy number, effective date, expiration, vehicle information, and insurance agents name and contact number in order for the Court to be able to obtain confirmation of coverage.   

6. My inspection sticker, vehicle registration or driver license was expired. Now that I have gotten them renewed, do I still have to pay the fine?

If you remedy the defect not later than the 20th working day after the date of the citation being issued and bring a receipt from the vehicle registration office as proof the delinquent registration fee has been paid; the court may dismiss the charges with a paid $20 dismissal fee.

1. What is required to turn on water/electric temporarily so that I can clean an empty house or do some maintenance?

The City will set up a temporary account for two weeks to cleanup and do any repairs. Utilities will be charged based on consumption. A $75 deposit is required.

2. I want service, but I have a delinquent bill from an old account. How can I get service?

Pay the past due amount from your old account and put up a deposit of $150 for electric and $150 for water.

3. Can I turn my water/electric back on myself?

Absolutely not. Tampering with a meter is considered theft of service, and our policy is to prosecute all thefts of service.

4. My utilities have been cut-off. How do I re-establish service?

The past due amount must be paid plus a $15 service fee per service. Your water/electric will be turned back on the same day if the payment is received before 3 p.m.

5. Why was I not notified in person before my water/electric was cut-off?

If your payment is not received by the due date, the City sends out a disconnect notice telling you the amount that is due and the date we will disconnect the utilities. This notice is the only notification you will receive. Our staff is not allowed to collect payment in the field, nor are they authorized to negotiate terms to re-establish service.

6. Why was I asked to bring my lease agreement or home purchase contract with me to setup a water/electric account?

If the previous occupant of your home had water/electric service terminated for non-payment, we want to establish that you are a new occupant and are not responsible for the debt that was left owing. It also helps us establish the correct address to service.

7. Why is my water bill so high this month?

There could be several reasons for abnormally high water use. Among them are: 1. Watering the yard and landscaping. 2. A change in the number of people living in the household. 3. A leak in the plumbing system, fixture, or water using appliance. If you suspect a bad meter or an incorrect reading, call the Utility Billing Department at (940) 683-3400.

8. Why are my sewer charges higher than my water charges?

It is less expensive to operate a water system in this area than a sewer system. Ground water is readily available and requires very little treatment before it is pumped into the water system. Once the water has been used, however, it requires a multi-stage process to filter out the impurities and clean the water to the standards required by our sewer treatment plant.

9. I paid my bill; why did I receive a disconnect notice?

We either received your payment after the disconnect notices were printed, or we did not receive it at all. Call the Utility Billing Department at (940) 683-3400 to make sure your payment arrived. This is the only disconnect notice you will receive.

10. I will not be able to pay my utility bill before the cut-off date. What should I do?

Call the utility Billing Department at (940) 683-3400 to request an extension. You will be allowed one extension per year after the first 12 months of service.
