Community Information
Bridgeport is a growing community that still has its small-town appeal and rich historical fabric. Several community events are hosted each year by area organizations. Those events are listed below.
Butterfield Stage Days Sponsored by the Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce, Butterfield Stage Days is Bridgeport’s largest annual celebration. This event celebrates the toll bridge over the Trinity River built for the Butterfield Stage in 1860. A post office was later established near the bridge, giving birth to Bridgeport. Butterfield Stage Days offers plenty of food and fun for all ages. The event takes place on the second weekend each May.
Butterfield Rodeo and Rodeo Parade Sponsored by Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce, this event takes place the second weekend in May each year. The PRCA rodeo is a exciting, fun-filled event that should not be missed.
Coal Miner’s Heritage Festival Sponsored by the Bridgeport Historical Society and the Chamber of Commerce, this event celebrates the important role of coal mining in Bridgeport for more than 50 years. Join in the celebration the second Saturday in October downtown Bridgeport. Festivities include live Entertainment, Coal Mining Display, Antique Tools, Blacksmith, Arts & Crafts, Food Booths, Events & Games for Youth.
Halloween Parade & Neighborhood Trick-or-Treating
Sponsored by the City, a children's costume parade is held downtown by the Mayor. The children visit the doorsteps of each of the downtown merchants to receive goodies and show off their costumes. On Halloween night, there is also a neighborhood trick-or-treating event sponsored by the Bridgeport Police Department. Bounce houses, safe goodies, games and events are available for children.
Wise County Toy Run On the first Sunday in December, the Wise County Toy Run gathers gifts for the needy children in Wise County in Harwood Park. Usually, a motorcycle rally from Decatur to Bridgeport is included in the event.
Christmas Parade Sponsored by the Downtown Bridgeport Association and the Bridgeport Main Street Program, the parade takes place the second Saturday in December in downtown Bridgeport. Entries are open to the public!
